This year, for the first time, the event will include a city-wide Venetian Festival. The final celebration of the summer will once again bring together local performers, local food, art and local history.
Friday’s programme
The whole family will enjoy a varied programme of cultural events and activities. On Friday, the ruin castle stage will host the traditional nature evening, atmospheric music by Raunio duo and Raimo Lusma’s mind-bending mentalism. As the evening darkens, the castle ruins will be covered in shadows as shadow artist Paula Vilmi, the tamer of shadows, captures the ruins in an installation combining light and shadow art. In the park, the evening will be spent in the company of good music, as the Kainuu-based bands Irtaimisto, Saarisalo and SoulFun Orchestra take to the stage.
Saturday’s programme
Linnanvirta’s Saturday day will start with a traditional refreshing park exercise in the green surroundings of Karolineburg. The morning programme is traditionally designed for families with children, as the river park offers a wide range of activities and experiences. Children’s Linnanvirta will once again feature a programme of music, art, theatre and dance from morning to afternoon.
This year, the exhibition of equipment on Brahenkatu, you can see vehicles from the Border Guard, the Rescue Service and the police, among others. There will also be a welcome continuation of the border dog and surface rescue demonstrations. In the park Kyynäspuisto, the audience will be danced to by the dancers of the Casamba, while the home tent in the beach park will feature acoustic music and campfire songs.
Kainuu’s history comes to life The Tervakanava rowing show, a miniature display by tourist guides and a children’s castle tour. On Saturday, the park Rantapuisto music programme will include ELLIMEI from Kajaani, the Valkea band and Hot Heros ft. Are, who will combine funk, soul and rap music in an interesting way.
Saturday’s the park Rantapuisto programme will end with a spectacular and upbeat fireworks performance by Primal Flame on the castle bridge, followed by a city-wide boat party on the Kalkkisilta Laituri terrace.
Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Kajaani offers a children’s programme, a prayer walk and a traditional church service on the park on Sunday.
Art programme and shopping opportunities at Taidekuja
Linnanvirta’s art programme is increasingly rich in art events, exhibitions and installations. For the second time, the Art Square “Taidekuja” will be home to stalls by craftspeople from Kainuu and others. A visual arts event organised by the Taidevaltatie Toivo association will take over Lussitupa and its surroundings, and museums will set up a 90s-themed pop-up exhibition in Teppana’s historic granary. In the riverside park you can attend a screening of the world’s smallest cinema and try your hand at painting with a pencil.
Taste the flavours at the Food Festival
A rich programme creates an environment in the park where you can wander around and enjoy both the shows and the flavours of the region. The Food Festival celebrates local food with music again on Friday and Saturday.
