Kajaani Poetry Week

Poetry, music, theater – emotions, thoughts, experiences!

Kajaani Poetry Week is an annual event for word art and performing arts. It was founded in 1976 and has since been organized every year in the beginning of July. The event is held by City of Kajaani and it gets festival funding from Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

The event’s Art Director is responsible for the event program. Actress, screenwriter and director Kati Outinen has been Kajaani Poetry Week’s Art Director since 2019. The event program is very versatile, including theater, music and word art performances for all ages and in all genres. Kajaani Poetry Week takes over the whole city and there are performances in Congress and Culture Centre Kaukametsä, Kajaani City Theater – and different places around the city that might even be a bit surprising.

The program is renewed every year but it contains also elements that are repeated every year, such as Runovartit (Poetry Quarters) by the Eino Leino statue, the unveiling of Runokivi (Poetry Stone) and hoisting of the flag on the official Day of Poetry and Summer.

Welcome to Poetry Week!
