Arppe Memorial Forest Trail

This loop trail is 2,2 km long and it runs through a protected nature reserve, which consists of rare old forest that is in a natural state.

The Arppe Memorial Forest Trail runs through a protected nature reserve about 8 km south of Kajaani. The trail provides a good opportunity to see the nature’s cycle in a real environment.

The trail is 2,2 km long and is recommended to be hiked during the summer. The loop-shaped trail is mainly easy to follow, with no steep ascents or descents, but is quite narrow in some places. There are no services along the trail and please note, that no campfires are allowed in the protected forest.

The Arppe Memorial Forest was established at the request of Niilo Sakari Arppe, who served as Kajaani’s city forester in 1928-1951.
