Heikki Savolainen was one of the Finland’s most successful gymnasts of all time. He competed in the Olympics five times and won nine medals: two golds, one silver and six bronzes. He was also the unofficial Gymnastics World Champion of the year 1931. He took the Olympic oath in the Helsinki Summer Olympics in 1952.
After the war Savolainen worked as a city doctor in Kajaani and continued his work until retirement. His monument can be found in the Kajaani River Park.
