Eino Leino, the national poet of Finland, was born in Paltaniemi on July 7th 1878.
Sculptor Alpo Sailo started the design work of the statue and his wife, sculptor Nina Sailo made the statue using his sketches and a miniature sculpture. The statue can be found in the Kajaani River Park.
The Eino Leino House in Paltaniemi is open during the summer and there you can learn more about the master poet’s life and work.
