Spend a summer’s day on Ärjänsaari, known as a little island paradise. Ärjä island’s magnificent sandy beaches, tall sand banks and pine barren landscape ensure an unforgettable experience.

A summer’s day is quick to pass at Ärjänsaari when you’re kayaking or SUP boarding, trekking, geocaching, running on trails, swimming or just relaxing and enjoying the sun on the wonderful sandy beaches. Those looking for an action-packed visit can rent bikes and cycle around the island.

Why not pet the sheep that are grazing on the island during the summer, from 6 June to 15 August 2022.

Ärjänsaari is part of the Roku Geopark ridge formation, which extends all the way from Lieksa to Hailuoto. The return transport from Ärjänsaari leaves 5 hours after the departure time. For example, the departure from Ruunaniemi in Kajaani is at 10 a.m. and return from Ärjänsaari at 3 p.m. The distance to the island is around 4 km, which takes around 5–15 minutes on the boat depending on the weather conditions.

A summer café serves island visitors in the summers. The café sells coffee, doughnuts, ice cream, soft drinks and sweets. You can also rent a SUP board, kayak or bicycle from the café. Check the opening hours of the summer café.
