In the garden of the Kaukametsä Congress and Cultural Centre, there are seventeen stones in which poems have been carved. The stones form the Poetry Path. The idea of a poem engraved on a stone came from Sina Kujansuu, the previous artistic director of the Kajaani Poem Week (2004–2006). Each poet selected as the poet of the summer will pick a poem to be carved on a stone from their body of work.
The unveiling of the poem stone has become the highlight of the first day of the festival. The texts of the poets leave a permanent memento in the Kaukametsä area.
