Porapoika sculpture

The sculpture 'Porapoika' (Drill Boy) by the sculptor Matti Lahtinen, 2004.

The statue “Porapoika” stands next to the Kajaani railway station and depicts a boy under the age of 16 whose job during the construction of the railroad was to take blunt drills to the forge for sharpening and back to the rock drillers who were excavating the cliffs. The sculpture is made from the kerbstones of the platform of Pikkarala station.

The statue was unveiled during the railroad centenary celebrations in Kajaani on June 3, 2004.
